Review
I saw Larry Willis in Twins Lounge in Washington DC. He is very soft on the keys which is contrary to his size. "I'm your B.B. King look-alike," jokes Willis himself. Willis is lyrical, poetic and gentle. Like his other colleagues Hank Jones, Kenny Barron, Tommy Flanagan, he has very many things to say through his music. This album is as expressive as water, as demonstrated in the first song "D Bass-ic Blues." Gary Bartz and Cecil McBee work very well with Willis, like three architects who have known each other for life and are constructing a building together. Larry Willis is a true jazz genius!
