Review
What's Hong Kong blues? This is Hong Kong blues, and it's
good. As a Hong Kong citizen, I'm proud of William Tang
and his album because they both shine for Hong Kong and
its people. William Tang is a world-class harmonica player,
and can be compared to Carey Bell and James Cotton. At
first, I found out about Tang when he played harmonica
in the background songs for Hong Kong favourites like
Jacky Cheung and George Lam. I'm glad he released this
solo album and this is much better than the stuff that
he did for the stars. The most amazing things he did was
"Let the Smoke Clear" and "That's It"
with the Australian guitar master Tommy Emmanuel. These
tracks are played completely spontaneously and they sound
cool! "Amazing Grace" reminds me that although
Tang is not black, he's got the soulful blues feeling.
He also sings in two other songs. Even though those are
not the highlights in this album, he tries hard and he
ain't no bad singer. Be sure to check out the Chinese
blues duet with Clayton Cheung, its purely amazing! |
