Review
This is the most realized live version of what Van Morrison
is capable of. Like what it suggests on the box cover:
blues, ballads, funk, jazz and soul. But most of all,
his band is goddamn awesome. With people like Georgie
Fame, Kate St. John, John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Witherspoon
and Junior Wells, you can't really go wrong with them.
The highlight of the show is of course the accurate
timing and sassiness of Candy Dulfer's alto sax. You'll
see why Van loves Candy (Check out Van's Bootleg "I
Like Candy"). I love her too hearing how she plays.
This is only a cross-section of Van classics, but he
pays sufficient tribute to the greats such as Sly Stone,
James Brown, Sam Cooke and Ray Charles. The music is
so full of life that you think you are healed. Yes,
this is a healing album, an album for therapy.
