Review
This
is a soundtrack that goes along with acclaimed Spanish
director Carlos Saura's masterpiece "Tango."
This is one of the very best films that has come to
the theatre in the past two years (besides "The
Matrix" and "High Fidelity") and has
stolen my heart since then. This movie portrays the
theory "life imitates art" and expands on
it. The protaganist, a 50 year-old tango director, leaves
him old girl friend and falls in love with a beautiful
23 year-old tango dancer. It all seems very corny but
it is not - The movie is very credible in showing the
taboo romance and shows how a 50 year-old man can still
be very charming. I guess Saura is hinting at himself.
So why choose Lalo Schifrin to score this soundtrack
while the guy is a master of funk, not tango? Maybe
because he's a native Argentine. That's right! Schifrin
never disappoints, and truly, this soundtrack has a
sample of all the fabulous forms of tango and it is
never boring, but shows the exciting, romantic side
of tango music. An anonymous person has said, "Tango
is the most effective love-making music." After
listening to this soundtrack, I believe it is true.
Try it sometimes. This is a good movie soundtrack that
you can listen to it independently, but then again,
I highly recommend the film.
